Elly Doyle Park Service Awards 200912/23/2009 The Elly Doyle Park Service Award was established by the Fairfax County Park Authority on December 20, 1988, in recognition of Ellamae Doyle's years of outstanding service toward the preservation of parkland, natural and recreational areas for the benefit of Fairfax County residents. The purpose of the award is to publicly recognize a volunteer or group of volunteers for outstanding contributions to Fairfax County parks.
There were three awardees this year. The Park Authority selected Southwest Youth Association as an organization which participates in Park Authority's Adopt-A-Field program, assists with development of ball fields and lighting projects, has purchased bleachers and goals, and has active volunteers who serve as field monitors. On hand to accept the award was SYA President Gary Flather.
Other awardees this year included Kathi McNeil, President of the Friends of Huntley Meadows, and Jack Pitzer, an active volunteer at Frying Pan Farm Park. |
