Welcome to Southwestern Youth Association (SYA) Football for Tackle and Flag.  Our programs have a tradition of building champions and players of character while having fun! Tackle Football is considered one of the most demanding and rewarding of all little league sports. Therefore, it requires a huge commitment to the program.  The success of our program is driven by the level of commitment and support delivered by our coaches, players, parents, volunteers, and community. The Flag portion of SYA Football is a fast pace, fun oriented program that teaches the fundamentals of Football in a atmosphere of learning for both boys and girls.   The Football programs are designed to provide fundamental instruction in the game of football, in addition to providing for the physical, mental, and emotional development of each child.  This is accomplished through emphasis on sportsmanship, team play, self-discipline, maximum effort, integrity and maximum participation. Our Tackle Football program participates in the Fairfax County Youth Football League (FCYFL) along with approximately 20 other individual youth clubs that field teams in the various weight classes from Anklebiter through 155 pounds and approximately 7000 participants.  Our program is open to kids ages from 7 to 16 years old.  Teams are divided up by a combination of age, weight and experience. Our Flag program is offered in the Spring season and is open to kids 5-15 years of age.

Weather Policy

Inclement weather line: 703.324.5264        

1. All SYA Football practice cancellations will be posted by 5pm.  If it is not posted here or a coach or team administrator does not email you, assume practice is on.
2. We will wait until 6:30pm to see if bad weather clears before sending kids home.
3. When in doubt use common sense, lightning and monsoon type rains will usually cancel practice.
4. If lightning occurs after practice starts, leave field immediately, practice is delayed until 30 minutes after last lightning strike or cancellation by the head coach.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

 

 

Assessments - all evaluations will be at nZone located at 14550 Lee Rd, Chantilly from 8-9pm

NO CLEATS - sneakers ONLY, wear gym type clothes (shorts/t-shirts), bring your own water

K / 1ST GRADE - NO EVALUATIONS

     -  March 5 - 2nd through 5th grade

     -  March 7 - 6th thru 9th grade 

Coaches meeting and draft - March 13, 2024 at SYA Office (5950 Centreville Crest Ln, Centreville) - 6-8pm

First Practice: week of March 18, 2024

6 game schedule plus playoffs - all games on Sundays - schedule TBD

Jamboree (scrimmages): April 7 at Centreville High School - team schedules TBD

Registration opens April 2, 2024

Important Dates:

Skills Camp – July 22-25, 2024 @ Centreville High School

*You must be registered and paid in full.

Registration – Now (Closes August 5th wait list will begin on that date)

First Day of Practice – August 5. Locations will be Centreville High School and Braddock Park.

ANKLEBITER DIVISION

o Age 7 is unlimited

o Age 8 can weigh up to 90lbs

o Age 9 can weigh up to 55lbs

 

· 80LB DIVISION

o Age 8 is unlimited (100lbs Maximum weight for a player to carry the ball)

o Age 9 can weigh 56lbs to 100lbs

o Age 10 can weigh up to 85lbs

o Age 11 can weigh up to 80lbs

 

· 90LB DIVISION

o Age 9 is unlimited (110lbs Maximum weight for a player to carry the ball)

o Age 10 can weigh 86lbs to 110lbs

o Age 11 can weigh 81lbs to 95lbs

o Age 12 can weigh up to 90lbs

 

· 100LB DIVISION

o Age 10 is unlimited (120lbs Maximum weight for a player to carry the ball)

o Age 11 can weigh 96lbs to 120lbs

o Age 12 can weigh 91lbs 105lbs

o Age 13 can weigh up to 100lbs

 

· 115LB DIVISION

o Age 11 is unlimited (135lbs Maximum weight for a player to carry the ball)

SYA Football (Tackle) Skills Camp July 22-25, 2024

You are invited to attend the 2024 SYA non-contact skills camp! Please join us at Centreville High School on July 22-25, from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. This camp will teach the basic fundamentals of football, which include footwork, passing, receiving, stances, tackling basics, and much more. This is a great opportunity and introduction for newcomers and returning players to gear up for the upcoming season. Additionally, Skills Camp offers a chance for parents and children that are on the fence about tackle, to meet with and ask questions to SYA Football coaches. A fun time is guaranteed and all kids are welcomed!

The cost of the camp is $75.00 and you can either sign up when you register for tackle football or as a stand-alone at a later time. The camp is open to anyone, even if you aren't playing tackle football this season or playing in a different club. You Must be signed up to participate and check-ins will be required each day at the gate.
