SYA Football - Player Safety


The safety of our kids is paramount.  SYA Football was selected as one of three programs country wide to pilot a player safety program in cooperation with the NFL and USA Football. Coach Tom Healy attended a clinic in Canton, OH where he learned the Heads Up Tackling technique which will be integrated into our program.  The goal is to remove the head from contact when tackling.  In addition, we have been spreading the word on concussion awareness and will continue to share information at all our events.  The safety of all our players is up to parents, coaches and kids and we invite parents to have discussions with board members and our coaches.  We also want to share information on proper equipment fitting (helmets, shoulder pads) including mouthpieces, chinstraps and pads etc.  While everything may fit day one it will loosen with drills etc so we collectively need to constantly check kid’s equipment.
