2020-2021 Coach Bios

Corey Gough – Co-Head Coach, 17 Blue and 16 Blue

Corey Gough began playing volleyball in high school, competing in A and AA tournaments. He has been coaching club teams for 8 years, and this will be his 4th season with SYAVBC. In the 2017 season, Corey led 17 Blue to a second-place finish in CHRVA Club Regionals, bringing home gold medals in the Gold Division, as well as silver medals at Monument City Classic, and finished 5th at South Atlantic Championships. In 2018, Corey's 17 Blue team again came in second at Monument City and finished 9th at Capitol Hill Classic. Seven of Corey's players in the 2018 season competed in the 2018 VHSL State Tournament! He is a highly-regarded technical coach, and has also been giving private lessons for six years. When he's not coaching, Corey competes in two adult leagues, locally at the A/BB level, and nationally at the BB level - including earning a gold medal playing right side. Corey is IMPACT certified, and he is looking forward to another competitive season with SYA Volleyball Club.

Brittany Hines  Co-Head Coach, 17 Blue

Brittany (Anderson) Hines returns to SYA Volleyball Club for a second season of coaching. Brittany played outside hitter for Ultimate Chicago Volleyball Club throughout her high school career, and was the captain of her volleyball team at Lincoln-Way East High School in her hometown of Frankfort, IL. Brittany went on to play for Davis & Elkins College (D2) as both outside and right side, and was team captain her senior year. She had two years of club coaching experience before joining SYAVBC. Brittany's coaching style is very team-oriented, saying it is important to remember that talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships. Brittany is IMPACT certified, and really looking forward to working with her team this season!

Kassie Freyermuth – Co-Head Coach, 16 Blue

Kassie Freyermuth has been a familiar face at SYAVBC tryouts and clinics for years, and we are thrilled to welcome her to our coaching staff this season! Kassie began playing volleyball in 6th grade in Pittsburgh, PA and continued playing on club and school teams all the way through high school. After graduation she played for Westminster College (D3), and throughout her career she has played middle hitter, outside hitter, right side hitter, and back row. Kassie is currently a varsity assistant coach at Marshall High School, and she is an 8th grade English special education teacher at Glasgow Middle School. Kassie believes that volleyball should be fun, and a huge part of that is trusting and working with your teammates. Volleyball is a team sport and requires everyone doing their part in order to be successful, communicating with the other players and coaches, and constantly talking about what is going on while on the court.

Gaby Chavez – Assistant Coach, 16 Blue

We are excited to welcome Gaby Chavez to SYA Volleyball Club this season! Gaby started playing volleyball in her freshman year at Osbourn High School and quickly became passionate about the sport, playing middle hitter. In her Senior year she was the Osbourn HS MVP and was named to Cedar Run All-District First Team in 2007. After graduation, Gaby continued playing on the club team during her four years at Temple University, and she was named team President in her junior and senior years. She coached volleyball for the Manassas Boys & Girls Club for two years, and competes in local women's adult leagues. Her women's team won a FXA Sports league championship in 2018. Gaby's coaching philosophy is based on maintaining a positive attitude and that every girl should see herself as a leader both on and off the court. Gaby coached in SYAVBC's summer clinic series, and she is excited to coach club for the first time and is looking forward to helping her players' skills improve while succeeding in competitive play.

Danielle was named Second Team All-District in her senior year, and she played intramural volleyball all throughout college.

Samantha Hogue – Floater Coach

Sammy Hogue was an award-winning high school athlete, playing both volleyball and lacrosse for all 4 years at West Springfield High School, earning All-District honors in both sports. At the University of Mary Washington, Sammy was the starting setter for the Eagles, and also played on the UMW rugby team, winning a national championship in women’s rugby. She has multiple seasons of club playing and coaching experience here in the CHRVA region. Sammy absolutely loves coaching volleyball and helping her players be the best they can be, and she is IMPACT certified.

Stephanie Hagen – Floater Coach

Stephanie Hagen continues to bring her love of volleyball to her fifth coaching season with SYAVBC, having played for SYA Volleyball and SYAVBC from 2006 – 2010. During those years Stephanie played varsity for her middle school and high school teams as well. At Battlefield High School she was the Varsity Captain, and played libero on Coach K and Coach Lowery’s SYAVBC 16 Blue Crush team which won CHRVA Gold Bracket Regionals in 2009. Stephanie is IMPACT certified, and her philosophy is that physical fitness should be a top priority for her players, and works with her teams to develop the endurance and strength needed to “give it all” for tournaments.
