The 16u/B team will focus on readiness for high school tryouts. Coach Emilio has this philosophy: refine fundamentals, get stronger, get faster, repeat. As we employ our philosophy, we have created an atmosphere that promotes teamwork, friendship and good sportsmanship. In addition, our athletes build confidence, work ethic and establish self-accountability. Our athletes and their families have established a tight bond based on love for the game, teamwork and friendship.
Our roster is comprised of dedicated 9th grade athletes. All our athletes have prior travel softball experience. This team is open to athletes who do not yet have high school experience but are planning to try out for their high school team in the spring.
Coach Emelio Perez is our 16u/B coach. Coach Emilio has 20 years of experience playing, coaching and training athletes. He has coached softball at the recreation, all-star, select and travel team levels. Coach Perez has supported by a group of fantastic assistant coaches, who have been Head High School and Travel Softball Coaches.
The team primarily competes in tournaments in the DMV area during the fall, spring, and summer. The team will travel to other states based on sensibility and costs associated. In addition to tournaments, the team competes in numerous scrimmages throughout the year. The scrimmages are a cost effective way to get live playing experience. Scrimmages are typically run during scheduled practice times or on the weekends. During the season, the team typically holds practice two days a week. Practice is held at or near Colin Powell ES. On the non-practice days, most Xplosion players take private lessons, perform physical training or play an additional sport. The Xplosion has a private indoor training facility across the street from the Chantilly Costco, which is used during the off-season and during inclement weather. The facility has batting cages, pitching/fielding space and state of the art strength/fitness/agility equipment. All Xplosion athletes participate in a rigorous off season training program, which is run by professionals from XLR8 Sports Performance.
